Who is Fiona Southworth ?
Fiona Southworth is the writer behind The Twisted Branch series and the creator of Nova Vale Studio. She writes dark, psychological stories inspired by vivid dreams, strange ideas, and the kind of “what if” moments that don’t quite let go. Her work leans into tension, twists, and endings that stay with you longer than they should.
Originally from the UK, Fiona now lives in the US with her husband, step-son, eight cats, and a husky: most of whom insist on being involved in her daily routine. When she’s not writing, she spends her time gardening, feeding the birds (closely supervised by said cats), and walking her dog, also followed by at least four of them.
Fiona has been an urban explorer for over 12 years, with a passion for photographing forgotten places and uncovering the stories behind them. This interest continues to influence her work, with plans to share more of the hidden, abandoned, and unusual corners of the world through future projects.
Many of her stories begin as dreams: ideas written down, revisited, and shaped into something darker. She gravitates toward twist endings and unsettling concepts, often exploring how a single choice can unravel everything. Several of her short stories have been published on Reedsy, marking the beginning of a growing body of work.
Fiona self-published her first book in July 2025 and continues to build her audience through creative storytelling, trailers, and ongoing projects. Through Nova Vale Studio, she shares updates on upcoming books, behind-the-scenes insights, and the ideas that fuel her writing.
